How To Stay Productive When You’re Stuck At Home

Things are crazy bonkers in the world right now. Our world is changing every day. We don’t know what’s going to happen next, and this is super scary.

And to top it off, many of our go-to methods for handling stress have been taken away. We can’t go to the gym, we can’t go for coffee with friends, and lots of us are stuck at home.

Our brains love routine and they like keeping busy! Routine makes our thinking more efficient, reduces stress, and makes us more productive.

As tempting as it might be to sit at home on your couch in your sweat pants for the next few weeks, DON’T! This would actually make your brain more stressed in the long run! Remember our brains need routine and they need to keep active (just like our bodies).

But what to do? Our routines are all out of wack. And we can’t rely on our go-to methods for handling stress.

Here are my recommendations to help your brain get out of panic mode and be productive when you’re at home, even when the world around you feels like the Twilight Zone!

Get dressed in the morning – Don’t spend all day in your sweats. I know they’re comfortable, mine are probably my favorite piece of clothing, but getting dressed in the morning signals our brains that it’s time to get to work. Your energy will go up, and you will be more productive if you get dressed.

Set an alarm and get up – If you need to catch up on sleep for a couple days that’s cool, but too much sleep is bad for our health. It’s really hard for our brains to get motivated when we sleep too much, and this can actually make us feel more stressed.

Do something fun every day – Play a board game, or watch a funny movie. Our brains need a break from the constant stress going on around us.

Move your body – Can’t get to the gym and live somewhere it’s too cold to go outside like I do? Get creative. If you’re stuck for ideas, check out my free list of 10 fun things to do at home to reduce stress.

Keep your brain active – Read a book, or learn something new. Your brain needs to stay active too.

Get organized – Clean out the junk drawer, or organize your closet. It feels so good to get organized when everything else around us seems out of our control.
